Programs of Study (Specialties)

In Nicolae Testemitanu USMF there are the following undergraduate programs of study: Medicine, Public Health, Optometry, Nursing, Dentistry, and Pharmacy. Foreign citizens may apply for Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmacy programs in Romanian, English, French or Russian languages of training. All of the students learn compulsory Romani- an language. Before joining to undergraduate course, foreign students can opt for a preparatory course, which includes the basics of biology, chemistry, and physics in Romanian or English language. University provides postgraduate programs and also Master’s or Ph.D. training for advanced scientific education in the fields of Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmacy in diverse specialties in the Romanian language.

At the University the study process includes modern training approaches like theoretical courses, practical activities, clinical training in hospitals, problem-based learning, case-based learning, simulation activities, computer training, role-playing, elements of distance learning teaching, and individual activities.

Students are taught in small groups by using up-to-date equipment, and intensive and interactive teaching. Our students learned to think critically, and analytically solve problems. We consider team working and training in the field of communication with the patients very important. The academic year lasts 34 weeks (5 working days each), divided into two equal semesters and two examination sessions.

PROGRAM OF STUDY

Medicine Courses

Program of study Medicine is performed at two faculties: Medicine No. 1 (languages of training Romanian, Russian and French) and Medicine no. 2 (the language of training English). The duration of studies is 6 years. Students start their studies mainly with preclinical subjects in the first II years. Clinical disciplines are included gradually and are carried out at the University Chairs (Departments) based in hospitals, where students develop their communication and practical skills.
The curriculum meets the recommendations of the WHO and the Association of Medical Schools in Europe concerning medical education. In 2018 the Medicine study program was accredited by National Accreditation Board and in 2019 was accredited according to the World Federation of Medical Education (WFME) requirements. There are more than 4000 students in the program of study Medicine (including 2000 international students). International students have optimal conditions for studying medicine (simulation center, well-equipped laboratories, up-to-date information resources, and access to patients). After graduation, international students usually have to pass a screening test in their country of origin.

Dentistry Courses

The students of the program of study Dentistry are trained at the Faculty of Dentistry and have their clinical practice in different clinical settings, including two university dental clinics, equipped with modern devices and medical manikins that are used to help simulate medical, surgical, or clinical scenarios.

The duration of studies is 5 years. There are nearly 400 students in the program of study Pharmacy. The curriculum meets the standards and is based on the requirements of the European Directives in the field of pharmaceutical education. In 2018 the Pharmacy study program was accredited by National Accreditation Board.

In 2018 the Dentistry study program was accredited by National Accreditation Board and the California Dental Board (USA). There are more than 800 students in the program of study Dentistry (including over 250 international students). The Faculty is continuously improving the study process by developing international collaboration with dental faculties in Romania, Ukraine, Russia, the USA, France, the Czech Republic, and other countries.

Pharmacy Courses

The students of the Pharmacy program of study are trained at the Faculty of Pharmacy, furnished with modern equipment that meets all the requirements for training. The practical skills are developed at the Pharmaceutical Center, drug stores (including University Pharmacy), and the Scientific Center of medicinal Herbs Cultivation.

The duration of studies is 5 years. There are nearly 400 students in the program of study Pharmacy. The curriculum meets the standards and is based on the requirements of the European Directives in the field of pharmaceutical education. In 2018 the Pharmacy study program was accredited by National Accreditation Board.
